BPS Research Day - Tuesday 11th January 2011
To mark the mid-point in the The National Graduate Enhancement Programme (NGEP) in (Bio)Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences (BPS), a ‘BPS Research Day’ was held on Tuesday 11th January at the Nursing Building, Dublin City University (DCU). DCU President Professor Brian MacCraith welcomed participants and the programme consisted of two sessions of oral presentations given by 10 of the BPS postdoctoral and PhD researchers, chaired by Professor Anita Maguire from UCC and Professor Ciaran Regan from UCD respectively.
There were also two poster sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, at which almost 40 posters were displayed, representing wide-ranging research from BPS funded students and postdoctoral researchers from UCD, TCD, DCU and UCC.Keynote talks were given by Professor Stephen Clark, Head of School of Chemistry, University of Glasgow and Professor Theo Meert, Head of Neuroscience, Johnson & Johnson, chaired by the BPS Programme Manager, Professor Pat Guiry, UCD and Professor Oliver Dolly, DCU respectively.
The event was supported by sponsorship from DCU, Pall Corporation, Charles River, Bioquell, Techniplast, Mason Technology and Sophion and closed with presentations from Dr Eucharia Meehan, Head of Research and Capital Programmes, HEA; Science Foundation Ireland representative Dr Stephen Simpson; Dr Sean Mulvany , Director of Life Sciences and Food Research Commercialisation, Enterprise Ireland and Alan Clancy, Finance Director, Allergan Pharmaceuticals, Ireland.
